Calais 4.0 is the latest version of the semantic web service and open Api launched a year ago. It enables publishers to add semantic layers to their blogging content – categorizing people, places, events and so on.
It also enables publishers to connect to the Linked Data standards promoted over the last few years by guys like Berners-Lee.
This basically means metatagging oriented to the commercial side of the Semantic Web, through the integration of your content with Linked Data assets from Wikipedia, the Internet Movie Database, Shopping.com and others services.
OpenCalais goes along perfectly with Tagaroo, a WordPress plug-in that suggests you tags and images from Flickr (with the desired licensing option and position on your blog template).
Both OpenCalais and Tagaroo are initiative by Thompson Reuters.
And they both just need a free two-steps registration: registering at the site, and registering for an API key to copy and paste in your WP blog settings.
